I'm exhausted mentally, physically, and emotionally. So this will be very short.

Katieum Update

She'd been doing a lot better. The docs really thought she'd turned the corner. Lowered the pressure and percentage of the ventilator, stable temp, blood oxygen, blood pressure... Stopped giving her the sedative, figured they'd try to wake her up (knowing that if she fought it, she'd be re-sedated and that this was a likely possibility).

Then she had a bad day yesterday. So they gave her a CAT scan. They found the lingering infection. Everyone ready for this...?


It's in her heart. And her brain.


and they don't know how bad it is, whether it's just around the organs or actually in them, or if she has any brain damage. Given that:

They're not even sure she'll be able to wake up.



I want to do some sort of fund raiser for her and her family. Their medical bills have to be piling up immensely. Legal bills also. Because the dr she saw approx 36 hours before she was lifeflighted down to the hospital she's in now sent her home with no meds and no tests done nothing said she'd be fine. And she damn near died, and now it's possible that she's as good as she's going to get.

This is so fucked up. I want to cry.

Shit. I know that I don't really have much to offer but if there is anything that I can do, just let me know.

From your experience with the fireman's parties, I think you would be able to plan a great fundraiser. Again..if there is anything you need, let me know.

I wish I could say something encouraging or be of some use on the money front. God knows I'd give you money if I had it.

I think setting up a fund is a wonderful idea. I also think her family filing a malpractice suit against the doctor who sent her home is a good idea, and would likely be fruitful, considering her state.

You've been doing a lot of good for your friend, and that will help keep her alive and going.

Brain damaged or not, she's still the same person, she'll just be seeing and thinking about things in a different way. Don't ever lose sight of that. I am sure that, no matter what, she'll always be thankful to have you in her life.

If you plan a fundraiser, look into anything from local artists willing to donate pieces of work for a silent auction to bands willing to play. You'd be surprised how many people will come forward for a good cause.
